Classical Scholar’s Exam

The testing dates for the 2017 CLE and CSE are February, 2017.

The Classical Scholar’s Exam may be taken instead of, or in addition to, the Classical Literacy Exam. The procedures for the Classical Scholar’s Exam is same as those for the CLE, except:

1. There is only one exam for all levels. The levels are set by the grade of each student: Level I (6th – 8th), Level II (9th – 10th), and Level III (11th – 12th). Awards will be determined separately for each level.

2. 16 of the terms, phrases, and identifications will come from the official CLE lists. Another 9 will come from terms used on previous exams. Though the remaining 25 questions will reflect proportionally similar levels of difficulty, the answers will not come from the official CLE lists. The questions will also generally require greater depth of knowledge with respect to classical literature, history, and culture.

3. As with the CLE, we ask teachers to decide for themselves questions regarding spelling or alternative answers. We are happy as always to offer guidance.

The cost for each participating student is $1.00. Teachers may choose any week in February 2017 to administer the exam.

The registration deadline for both exams is January 20, 2017. We encourage teachers to make payment via PayPal.
